Social media need to take a break
Are we there yet? Are you full yet? I am. I think I have signed up for 145 different microblogs, 245 social networking aggregators, 1942 social networks and 60 different multi network pinging services. And they all do exactly the same thing. They are so many know that if I tweet just once, these single tweet appears like 159283 times on my Twitter and I am having a hard time assigning accounts here and there and trying to get rid of doublettes.
Not to mention my use of aggregators. I am following exactly the same people on FriendFeed, Twitter, Rejaw, Plurk, Socialmedian, Brightkite, Jaiku, Delicious, Diigo, Digg, Iminta…the list goes on… And they do the same thing, connect their various accounts so we all end up with the same fracking social media stream on each fracking service. I mean…WHY? Why can’t we just have one? Do we actually need more? No. Frack no!
I am full of this now. I have had enough of clones and wannabe services that eventually will close before coming out of beta anyway. We don’t need this. We shouldn’t be needing this. There is no fracking idea in having and using all these services when they all work just the same.
So I am seriously thinking about leaving this social media hype. The questions is, what do I do if I do? I need to find something new that can occupie me during evenings and nights. Perhaps it’s time to learn programming for real now. So I can make my own social media tool…
